Vines 75 years old.
Smooth, supple and polished texture leaves you wanting more flavor and complex fruit. The core of cherry, plum and raspberry is elegant, if on the simple side. Drink now through 2005.

Although blatantly oaky, Fife's 1999 Zinfandel Old Vines is an attractive, dark plum-colored effort with abundant raspberry and black cherry fruit offered in a round, medium-bodied style. Drink it over the next 3-4 years.

Ultraripe, with jammy blackberry and cherry jam flavors, picking up earth and anise flavors. Drink now through 2005.
Robert Parker 88 (of possible 100), Wine Advocate #137 (10/2001)
This is a typical St. Francis Zinfandel ... dark ruby/purple-colored with tons of toasty American oak as well as jammy ripe blackberry and cherry flavors infused with licorice, herbs, and smoke. It is a full-bodied, low acid, decadently fruited and wooded wine with an unmistakable "made in California" personality. It should be drunk in its exuberant, robust youth ... over the next 3-4 years.

eVineyard commentary: The Ancient Vines Zinfandel shows wonderful dusty raspberry, blackberry, white pepper and spice, with coffee and chocolate characters. Prolonged aging in new and used wood has lent this wine a subtle vanilla quality that complements nicely the explosive fruit notes. Enjoy this wine presently for its effusive black fruit, or cellar for 5 to 7 years.
