Cedary, with a slight musty cement edge to the earthy currant, olive and cedary oak flavors. Fails to inspire. Drink now through 2005. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 23,000 cases made.

Dark and dramtically scented, with a perfume of superbly ripe cassis and plush, smoky oak, it's a pleasure to inhale. In the mouth, it drinks round and supple, with real flair. The tannins are exquisite, the acidity soft but supportive. The one problem is a certain thinness in the middle palate, probably a fault of the vintage. Drink now, or soon.

Opaque blackish-ruby hue. Ripe black fruit and brown spice aromas show good ripeness and an integrated oak accent. A lush entry leads to a rounded, moderately full-bodied palate with grippy tannins and balanced acidity. Already approachable, but best with near- to mid-term cellaring. (3-6 years from 9/2001)

Ripe, juicy cherry and plum flavors counterbalance the earthy tannins. Turns simple on the finish. Drink now through 2006. 16,000 cases made.
